How do I prevent Google from indexing my site?
Keep your wedding website out of search engine results if you prefer it to remain private.
Short answer: Go to Website > Builder > Site settings and check the option to prevent search engine indexing.
Enabling noindex
Go to Website > Builder
Click Site settings
In the General tab, make sure your site is published
Check the box for Prevent search engines from indexing this site
Click Save
How it works
When you enable this setting:
- A "noindex" tag is added to your website
- Search engines like Google are instructed not to list your site
- Your site won't appear in search results
- Guests can still access it directly with the URL
What this doesn't do
Preventing indexing does not:
- Password protect your site
- Hide your site from people who have the URL
- Remove your site from search results immediately if it was previously indexed
- Prevent social media previews when sharing links
Additional privacy options
For more privacy, consider also:
- Password protecting your site
- Enabling guest authentication
- Using a less guessable subdomain
- Not sharing your URL publicly on social media
Tips
Search engines may take time to respect the noindex request
If your site was previously indexed, request removal through Google Search Console
The setting only affects search engine visibility, not direct access
Combine with password protection for maximum privacy
