Setting up DNS on GoDaddy

Step-by-step instructions for connecting your GoDaddy domain to WedSites.

If you registered your domain with GoDaddy, follow these steps to add the DNS records needed to connect it to your WedSites wedding website.

Before you start

Make sure you've added your domain to WedSites first. Go to Settings > General and enter your custom domain, then save. Then come back here to set up your DNS records.

You'll need access to your GoDaddy account. Make sure you can log in and that you have permission to manage DNS for your domain.

DNS records you need to add

You'll be adding these two records to your GoDaddy domain:

Record Type

Name

Value

TTL

A

@

37.16.10.26

600 seconds (default)

CNAME

www

domains.wedsites.com

1 Hour (default)

Important: You only need the A record if you're using an apex domain (like yourwedding.com). You only need the CNAME if you're using a subdomain (like www.yourwedding.com). We recommend adding both so both versions of your domain work.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Log in to GoDaddy

Go to godaddy.com and log in to your account.

Step 2: Access your domain settings

  1. Click on your profile icon in the top right

  2. Click My Products

  3. Find your domain in the list

  4. Click DNS next to your domain name

If you see a button that says Manage instead of DNS, click that first, then look for a DNS or Manage DNS button.

Step 3: Check for existing A records

Before adding new records, scroll down to the Records section and look for any existing A records with @ in the Name column.

If you see existing A records for @:
- You need to delete any A records that don't point to 37.16.10.26
- This is crucial — having multiple A records causes your domain to only work sometimes
- Click the three dots or pencil icon next to each conflicting record and select Delete

Common conflicting records to look for:
- GoDaddy parking page A records (often pointing to 184.168.x.x or similar)
- Old website hosting A records
- Multiple A records with different IP addresses

Step 4: Add the A record

  1. Click the Add button (usually near the top of the Records section)

  2. Select A from the Type dropdown

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Name: @ (this represents your root domain)

    • Value: 37.16.10.26

    • TTL: 600 seconds (or leave as default — it doesn't matter much)

  4. Click Save

Step 5: Add the CNAME record

  1. Click the Add button again

  2. Select CNAME from the Type dropdown

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Name: www (or your subdomain name if different)

    • Value: domains.wedsites.com

    • TTL: 1 Hour (or leave as default)

  4. Click Save

Using a custom subdomain? If you're using something like wedding.yourwedding.com instead of www, replace "www" with "wedding" in the Name field.

Step 6: Save your changes

GoDaddy usually saves changes automatically when you click Save on each record. You should see your new records appear in the list.

After adding the records

Wait for DNS propagation. It usually takes about 15-30 minutes for DNS changes to take effect, but it can take up to 24-48 hours in some cases.

SSL certificate is automatic. Once your domain connects, we'll automatically add an SSL certificate so your site works with https. This happens within a few hours of your domain connecting.

Test your domain. After waiting, try visiting your domain in a browser. You should see your wedding website!

Troubleshooting

Domain not working after 30 minutes?
- Double-check that you entered the DNS records exactly as shown above
- Make sure you deleted any conflicting A records for @
- Verify you entered your domain in WedSites under Settings > General

Getting an error about "CNAME conflicts"?
- You can't have a CNAME record and other records (like A or MX) with the same name
- Make sure your CNAME is for "www" and your A record is for "@", not both on "@"

Still seeing GoDaddy parking page?
- Make sure you deleted all old A records for @
- Wait a bit longer — sometimes it takes time for the old records to clear out
- Try clearing your browser cache or testing in an incognito window

Need to check if your DNS is set up correctly?
- Go to dnschecker.org
- Enter your domain and select "A" record type
- You should see 37.16.10.26 in the results
