Setting up DNS on Wix
Step-by-step instructions for connecting your Wix domain to WedSites.
If you registered your domain with Wix, follow these steps to add the DNS records needed to connect it to your WedSites wedding website.
Before you start
Make sure you've added your domain to WedSites first. Go to Settings > General and enter your custom domain, then save. Then come back here to set up your DNS records.
You'll need access to your Wix account. Make sure you can log in and that you have permission to manage DNS for your domain.
Disconnect any Wix site first. If your domain is currently connected to a Wix website, you need to disconnect it before setting up custom DNS records. Wix automatically manages DNS for connected sites, which will conflict with your WedSites records.
DNS records you need to add
You'll be adding these two records to your Wix domain:
Record Type | Host | Points To / Target | TTL |
A (Address) | @ | 37.16.10.26 | 3600 |
CNAME (Alias) | www | domains.wedsites.com | 3600 |
Important: You only need the A record if you're using an apex domain (like yourwedding.com). You only need the CNAME if you're using a subdomain (like www.yourwedding.com). We recommend adding both so both versions of your domain work.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Log in to Wix
Go to wix.com and sign in to your account.
Step 2: Go to domain management
Click your profile icon in the top right and select Account Settings
Click Domains in the left sidebar (or go directly to Domains from the dashboard)
Find your domain in the list
Click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to your domain and select Manage DNS Records
Step 3: Disconnect your Wix site (if connected)
If your domain is connected to a Wix site, you need to disconnect it first:
Go back to the Domains page
Click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to your domain
Select Assign to a different site or Disconnect domain
Confirm the disconnection
Once disconnected, go back to Manage DNS Records for your domain.
Step 4: Check for existing A records
In the DNS Records section, look for any existing A records with @ in the Host column.
If you see existing A records for @:
- You need to delete any A records that don't point to 37.16.10.26
- Having multiple A records causes your domain to only work sometimes
- Click the three-dot menu (⋯) on each conflicting record, then click Delete
Common conflicting records to look for:
- Wix's own A records (these point to Wix servers like 23.236.62.147)
- Wix parking page records
- Any A record for @ that isn't 37.16.10.26
Step 5: Add the A record
Scroll down to the A (Host) section
Click + Add Record
Fill in the fields:
Host Name: @
Value / Points To: 37.16.10.26
TTL: 1 Hour (3600)
Click Save
Step 6: Add the CNAME record
Scroll down to the CNAME (Aliases) section
Click + Add Record
Fill in the fields:
Host Name: www
Value / Points To: domains.wedsites.com
TTL: 1 Hour (3600)
Click Save
Using a custom subdomain? If you're using something like wedding.yourwedding.com instead of www, replace "www" with "wedding" in the Host Name field.
Step 7: Verify your records
After saving, scroll through the DNS records list to confirm both records appear:
- An A record for @ pointing to 37.16.10.26
- A CNAME record for www pointing to domains.wedsites.com
Make sure there are no duplicate A records for @.
After adding the records
Wait for DNS propagation. Wix DNS changes typically take 15 minutes to a few hours to fully propagate.
SSL certificate is automatic. Once your domain connects, we'll automatically add an SSL certificate so your site works with https. This happens within a few hours of your domain connecting.
Test your domain. After waiting, try visiting your domain in a browser. You should see your wedding website!
Troubleshooting
Domain not working after several hours?
- Double-check that you entered the DNS records exactly as shown above
- Make sure you deleted any conflicting A records (especially Wix's default ones)
- Verify you disconnected any Wix site from the domain
- Check that you entered your domain in WedSites under Settings > General
Still seeing a Wix site or parking page?
- Make sure you've fully disconnected the domain from any Wix site
- Delete all Wix A records for the root domain (they often point to 23.236.62.147 or similar)
- Try clearing your browser cache or testing in incognito mode
Can't find DNS Records option?
- Make sure you're in Account Settings > Domains, not in the Wix site editor
- The DNS Records option is under the three-dot menu (⋯) next to your domain
- You may need a Wix premium plan to manage DNS records
Wix keeps re-adding its own records?
- This happens when a Wix site is still connected to the domain
- Go to Domains and make sure the domain shows as "Not connected to a site"
- If it keeps reconnecting, remove the domain from the Wix site editor as well
CNAME issues?
- Make sure the Host Name is "www" and not "@"
- Verify the Value field is exactly: domains.wedsites.com
- Check that you don't already have a CNAME for www — edit the existing one instead of adding a duplicate
Need to verify DNS setup?
- Go to dnschecker.org
- Enter your domain and select "A" record type
- You should see 37.16.10.26 in the results
Wix-specific notes
Disconnect before configuring DNS: This is the most important step. Wix automatically manages DNS records for any domain connected to a Wix site. If you don't disconnect the site first, Wix may override your custom DNS records.
Wix premium plan may be required: Some Wix plans restrict DNS management. If you can't find the DNS Records option, check that your Wix plan includes domain management features, or contact Wix support.
Nameservers must stay with Wix: For DNS records managed through Wix to work, your domain's nameservers must point to Wix (ns0.wixdns.net through ns3.wixdns.net). If you've changed nameservers to another provider, manage DNS there instead.
Domain renewal: Your domain registration and DNS hosting through Wix are separate from your WedSites subscription. Make sure to renew your domain with Wix when it expires.
Email hosting: If you use Wix for email, your MX records are separate and won't be affected by adding these A and CNAME records.
