Setting up DNS on OVHcloud

Step-by-step instructions for connecting your OVHcloud domain to WedSites.

If you registered your domain with OVHcloud (formerly OVH), follow these steps to add the DNS records needed to connect it to your WedSites wedding website.

Before you start

Make sure you've added your domain to WedSites first. Go to Settings > General and enter your custom domain, then save. Then come back here to set up your DNS records.

You'll need access to your OVHcloud Control Panel. Make sure you can log in and that you have permission to manage DNS for your domain.

DNS records you need to add

You'll be adding these two records to your OVHcloud domain:

Record Type

Host

Points To / Target

TTL

A (Address)

@

37.16.10.26

3600

CNAME (Alias)

www

domains.wedsites.com.

3600

Important: You only need the A record if you're using an apex domain (like yourwedding.com). You only need the CNAME if you're using a subdomain (like www.yourwedding.com). We recommend adding both so both versions of your domain work.

Note: OVHcloud requires a trailing dot on CNAME targets. Make sure to enter domains.wedsites.com. (with the dot at the end).

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Log in to OVHcloud

Go to ovh.com and sign in to your OVHcloud Control Panel. Select your region if prompted (Europe, Canada, etc.).

Step 2: Navigate to your domain

  1. In the left sidebar, click Domain names

  2. Click on your domain name in the list

  3. You'll see your domain's management page

Step 3: Open the DNS zone

  1. Click the DNS zone tab

  2. You'll see a list of all your current DNS records

Step 4: Check for existing A records

Look for any existing A records in the list. They'll show "A" in the Type column.

If you see existing A records for @ (or blank/your domain name):
- You need to delete any A records that don't point to 37.16.10.26
- Having multiple A records causes your domain to only work sometimes
- Click the three-dot menu () on the right side of each conflicting record, then click Delete entry
- Confirm the deletion

Common conflicting records to look for:
- OVHcloud default hosting A records (often pointing to OVHcloud's servers like 213.186.33.5)
- Web hosting A records
- Parking page A records

Step 5: Remove OVHcloud web hosting link (if present)

If your domain is linked to an OVHcloud web hosting plan, it may have automatic A records that you can't delete directly.

  1. Go to the Multisite tab in your hosting plan

  2. Remove your domain from the multisite list

  3. Go back to the DNS zone tab and delete the now-unlocked A records

Step 6: Add the A record

  1. Click Add an entry (at the top right of the DNS zone)

  2. Select A from the record type list

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Sub-domain: Leave blank (this represents the root domain)

    • Target: 37.16.10.26

    • TTL: Select Custom and enter 3600, or leave as default

  4. Click Next, then Confirm

Step 7: Add the CNAME record

  1. Click Add an entry again

  2. Select CNAME from the record type list

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Sub-domain: www

    • Target: domains.wedsites.com. (include the trailing dot)

    • TTL: Select Custom and enter 3600, or leave as default

  4. Click Next, then Confirm

Using a custom subdomain? If you're using something like wedding.yourwedding.com instead of www, replace "www" with "wedding" in the Sub-domain field.

Step 8: Verify your records

After adding, scroll through the DNS zone to confirm both records appear:
- An A record for the root domain pointing to 37.16.10.26
- A CNAME record for www pointing to domains.wedsites.com.

After adding the records

Wait for DNS propagation. OVHcloud DNS changes typically take a few minutes to 24 hours to fully propagate. OVHcloud applies changes to their DNS servers relatively quickly, but global propagation depends on TTL values.

SSL certificate is automatic. Once your domain connects, we'll automatically add an SSL certificate so your site works with https. This happens within a few hours of your domain connecting.

Test your domain. After waiting, try visiting your domain in a browser. You should see your wedding website!

Troubleshooting

Domain not working after several hours?
- Double-check that you entered the DNS records exactly as shown above
- Make sure you deleted any conflicting A records
- Verify you disconnected any OVHcloud web hosting from the domain
- Check that you entered your domain in WedSites under Settings > General

Still seeing OVHcloud hosting page?
- Make sure you've removed the domain from the web hosting multisite configuration
- Delete all old A records for the root domain that don't point to 37.16.10.26
- Try clearing your browser cache or testing in incognito mode

CNAME record not saving?
- Make sure you included the trailing dot: domains.wedsites.com. (not domains.wedsites.com)
- OVHcloud requires the trailing dot for CNAME targets
- Make sure the Sub-domain field is "www" and not blank

Can't delete A records?
- If records are managed by an OVHcloud hosting plan, you need to unlink the domain from the hosting first
- Go to Hosting > Multisite and remove the domain
- Then return to the DNS zone to delete the records

Need to verify DNS setup?
- Go to dnschecker.org
- Enter your domain and select "A" record type
- You should see 37.16.10.26 in the results

OVHcloud-specific notes

Trailing dot on CNAME: OVHcloud requires a trailing dot (.) at the end of CNAME target values. This is a standard DNS convention, but OVHcloud enforces it strictly. Always enter domains.wedsites.com. with the dot.

Web hosting conflict: If your domain is linked to an OVHcloud web hosting plan, OVHcloud automatically manages certain DNS records. You need to unlink the domain from hosting before you can manually control the A record.

DNS zone vs nameservers: Make sure your domain is using OVHcloud's DNS servers (dnsXX.ovh.net). If you've changed nameservers to a third party, manage DNS there instead. You can check this in the DNS servers tab.

Control Panel regions: OVHcloud has separate control panels for different regions (EU, CA, etc.). Make sure you're logging into the correct regional control panel for your account.

Propagation within OVHcloud: Changes to the OVHcloud DNS zone are applied to their servers within minutes. However, if other DNS servers have cached your old records, it may take longer for the change to be visible everywhere.

Email hosting: If you use OVHcloud for email (MX Plan, Email Pro, or Exchange), your MX records are separate and won't be affected by adding these A and CNAME records.
