How do I ask questions only to guests who decline?

Show certain RSVP questions only to guests who can't make it to the wedding, so you can collect follow-up details without bothering attending guests.

Plan requirement: Standard or Pro plan

Short answer: Set the question's Display this question to dropdown to Guests not attending. Only guests who decline will see the question.

Why you'd want this

Some questions are only relevant for guests who can't come — things like livestream signup, a farewell message, an address to mail a keepsake, or even a simple "We'll miss you, anything you'd like us to know?" Showing these to attending guests would be confusing.

How to set it up

  1. Go to RSVP > Questions

  2. Click the question you want to limit (or add a new one)

  3. Find the Display this question to dropdown

  4. Pick Guests not attending

  5. Leave the event dropdown on Our wedding (main event) unless you specifically want the question tied to a single event

  6. Click Save changes

The question will now only show up for guests who select "Not attending" on their RSVP.

What guests see

  • Guests who select "Not attending" - They see the question as part of their declined-RSVP flow.

  • Guests who select "Attending" - They never see the question.

  • Guests who haven't responded - They'll see the question only if they end up declining.

Example: livestream signup for guests who can't come

  • Question: "Would you like us to email you a link to watch the ceremony live?"

  • Display this question to: Guests not attending

Only guests who decline will see this question, so you collect livestream emails from exactly the right people without bothering attending guests.

Example: farewell message

  • Question: "We'll miss you! Is there anything you'd like us to share with you after the big day?"

  • Display this question to: Guests not attending

A gentle note for guests who can't make it. Attending guests are spared the slightly melancholy tone.

Tips

Keep the tone warm. Questions for declined guests should feel understanding, not guilt-inducing.

Use "Long text" or "Multiple choice." Open-ended text fields work great for farewell messages. Multiple choice works for things like livestream signup ("Yes, send me a link" / "No thanks").

Combine with "Guests invited to" for all-audience questions. If you want the same info from everyone (like a mailing address), use the Guests invited to audience instead of duplicating the question.
