Editing a countdown section
Display a live countdown showing days until your wedding — or any other date — that automatically switches to count up once the date passes.
Countdown sections display how many days are left until a date. By default they point to your wedding date, but you can set a custom date for any other milestone. It's a fun way to build excitement as the big day gets closer!
What you can do with countdown sections
Show days until your wedding with a live countdown.
Count down to any other date like a rehearsal dinner, welcome party, or engagement anniversary.
Add multiple countdowns by creating a separate countdown section for each date you want to track.
Customize the format of how the countdown displays.
Add descriptions for before and after the date.
Automatically switch from counting down to counting up after the date.
Adding a countdown section
Go to Website in your main navigation
Click Add section
Choose Countdown from the list
Customize the text
Click Save changes
Fields you can edit
Countdown format: How the number displays. Default is "days" but you could customize it.
Countdown date: Optional. Leave blank to count down to your wedding date. Set a date here to count down to something else — a rehearsal dinner, a welcome party, an anniversary — and add a second countdown section for each extra date you want to track.
Description before date: Text that appears with the countdown before your wedding. Like "until we say I do!"
Description after date: Text that appears after your wedding. Like "since we tied the knot!"
How the countdown works
The countdown automatically calculates days until the target date. If you leave the countdown date blank, it uses your wedding date from your account settings. If you set a custom date, it counts down to that date instead.
Before the date: It shows "X days until we say I do!" (or whatever you wrote).
On the day: It shows "0 days" (it's finally here!).
After the date: It switches to counting up. "X days since we tied the knot!"
Customizing the text
Make the countdown feel personal:
Before wedding:
- "until we say I do!"
- "to the best day ever!"
- "until the celebration begins!"
- "until forever starts!"
After wedding:
- "since we tied the knot!"
- "of married life!"
- "since we said I do!"
- "and counting!"
Keep it short and sweet. The number is the star of this section!
Countdown format
The default format is "days" but depending on your theme, you might be able to change this to:
- Just the number with your custom text
- "X days" formatted differently
- Different time units
Check what options your theme provides.
Counting down to other dates
Want to count down to something other than the wedding? Set a custom date in the Countdown date field and the countdown will track that date instead. A few ideas:
Rehearsal dinner or welcome party the night before
Room block deadline so guests book hotels in time
RSVP deadline so guests remember to respond
Engagement anniversary or the day you started planning
Honeymoon departure
Add a second countdown section for each extra date you want to track — there's no limit.
Tips for using countdowns
Add it near the top. Countdowns work great on your home page where everyone can see them.
Keep it visible. Don't hide it deep in your site. The countdown is fun, show it off!
Update your wedding date. If your date changes, update it in settings and the countdown adjusts automatically (unless you've set a custom date, in which case update the countdown date directly).
Remove it after a while. Once you've been married for months or years, you might want to remove the countdown. Or keep it! It's up to you.
When to add a countdown
As soon as you set your date. Get guests excited from the very beginning.
When you launch your site. A countdown is a fun first element to add.
For engagement announcements. Show how far away the big day is.
You can add it anytime, but sooner is more fun!
Editing an existing countdown
Go to Website in your main navigation
Click on the countdown section
Update the text
Click Save changes
The countdown itself updates automatically based on the target date. You're just changing the descriptive text around it.
What if your wedding date changes?
Update your wedding date in Settings > General. Any countdown that's using your wedding date will automatically recalculate.
Countdown sections with a custom Countdown date set aren't affected by changes to your wedding date — update the custom date directly on the section if it changes.
Customizing countdown sections
You can also customize:
Space above and below: Adjust padding around the countdown.
Colors: Change text and background colors.
Fonts: The countdown might use special formatting based on your theme.
Privacy: Make it visible to everyone or just certain guests.
These options are in the section editor.
After the wedding
The countdown automatically switches to counting up after your wedding day. This is a sweet reminder of how long you've been married!
You can keep it or delete it. Some couples love keeping the count going, others prefer to remove it and replace it with anniversary content.
Countdown sections are fun and build anticipation. Guests love seeing the days tick down to your big celebration!
