Creating a website for your wedding is an easy way to keep your guests informed about all the details of your event without having multiple email threads, text messages, or phone calls. It’s also a fantastic way to get your guests excited about your event and help them prepare for your big day!

When you sign up for WedSites, you'll automatically get your own customizable subdomain. If you've also purchased your own custom domain name, we provide a few different ways to use it:

1. Upload HTML file
This method requires some basic hosting which can be provided by most registrars. If you have a hosting plan with GoDaddy, for example, you can upload the HTML file to their web server which will work instantly. The HTML file can be downloaded from the bottom of your "Settings" page here: https://dashboard.wedsites.com/settings

2. Forwarding with masking
If your registrar provides forwarding with masking, this is similar to the HTML file upload method. With GoDaddy, for example, this can be found on the "DNS Management" page, toward the bottom of the page in the "Forwarding" section. Click "Add forwarding", add "www" as your subdomain and enter your WedSites domain in the destination URL. Be sure to select "Forward with masking", and click "Save".

3. Forwarding without masking
Similar to forwarding with masking, but instead select "Permanent" or "Temporary" as the forward type. This will redirect your visitors to your WedSites domain. Unlike the other 2 methods, your custom domain will not remain in the address bar, but it will still be useful for guests to type in to visit your site.

By enabling forwarding on your domain, you’ll be able to share your custom URL (ex: yournames.com) with your guests and on your invitation. When anyone enters your URL into their browser, they’ll be able to view your wedding website to find all the information and RSVP online.

Where should I purchase my domain?

If you haven’t already purchased a custom domain, we recommend that you purchase it from a reputable domain registrar like namecheap.com, GoDaddy, or Bluehost, which all offer free domain forwarding.

How do I forward my domain?

Each domain registrar has a different interface and method for forwarding domains. If you have already purchased a custom domain, please search the registrar’s support docs for “domain forwarding” or “redirect to” instructions.

To save you the trouble, here are the instructions provided by some of the most popular domain registrars used by our couples!
