How do I send one email per household?

Send one email that addresses an entire household, even when only one person has an email address.

Plan requirement: Standard or Pro plan

Short answer: Emails are always sent to individual guests, but you can address the whole household by using merge tags like [guests] or [household] in your ecard text. To avoid duplicate emails within a household, only add an email address for one member.

How sending works with households

Emails are sent to each guest who has an email address. There is no separate "send to household" option. To effectively send one email per household:

  1. Add an email address to only one member of each household — typically the primary contact

  2. Use household merge tags in your ecard text so the email addresses everyone

This way, the household receives a single email that speaks to all members.

Using merge tags to address households

Instead of [firstname] (which only shows the recipient's name), use:

  • [guests] — lists all guest names in the household (e.g., "Michael and Sarah")

  • [household] — uses the household name (e.g., "The Smiths")

Example

Your ecard text:

Dear [guests], you are invited to celebrate with us!

What the recipient sees:

Dear Michael and Sarah, you are invited to celebrate with us!

Tips

  • Set up households before sending so merge tags work correctly

  • Only one household member needs an email address to receive the email

  • Use [guests] for a personal tone or [household] for a more formal tone

  • Preview your ecard to check that merge tags display correctly

  • Guests can still RSVP individually even when one person receives the household email
