Learn how to create and send a plain email to your guests for general wedding communications (Standard or Pro plan).

The plain email template is a blank slate for any message you want to send. Use it for general updates, thank you notes, directions, or any communication that doesn't fit the other template types.

Plan requirement: Standard or Pro plan

When to use a plain email

Use the plain email template for general-purpose messages:

  • Welcome message - Introduce yourselves and share excitement about the wedding

  • Travel information - Share directions, parking details, or hotel recommendations

  • Thank you note - Send a post-wedding thank you to guests

  • General update - Any news or changes guests should know about

If you're sending a save the date, invitation, RSVP reminder, or collecting guest details, use the specific template for that purpose instead. Those templates come with pre-filled content designed for their use case.

Default content

When you create a plain email draft, it starts with:

  • Subject: "A message from [your couple names]"

  • Message: "We're getting married! Visit our website to find out more."

  • Button text: "Visit our website" (links to your wedding website)

All of this can be fully customized.

How to create a plain email

  1. Go to Sending in your main navigation

  2. Click to create a new draft

  3. Select Email as the template

  4. Customize the subject, message, and call to action

  5. Select your recipients

  6. Preview and send

Personalizing with placeholders

Make your emails feel personal by using placeholders that get replaced with each guest's information:

  • [firstname] - Guest's first name

  • [lastname] - Guest's last name

  • [fullname] - Guest's full name

  • [household] - Household name

  • [guests] - All guest names in the household

  • [couple] - Your names as a couple

For example, "Hi [firstname], we can't wait to celebrate with you!" becomes "Hi Sarah, we can't wait to celebrate with you!" for each recipient.

Tips

Start with a warm greeting. Use [firstname] or [guests] to make each email feel personal rather than generic.

Keep it concise. Most guests scan wedding emails quickly. Get to the point and include a clear call to action.

Use the button wisely. Link to your wedding website, a specific page, or any relevant URL. The button is the most clicked element in wedding emails.

Preview before sending. Always send a test email to yourself first to check how the email looks and that placeholders work correctly.
