Composing a custom URL email

Learn how to create and send an email with a custom link that directs guests to any URL you choose (Standard or Pro plan).

The custom URL template lets you send an email with a button that links to any website. Use it when you want to direct guests to an external page like a hotel booking link, travel guide, gift registry, or any other URL.

Plan requirement: Standard or Pro plan

When to use a custom URL email

Use the custom URL template when you need the call-to-action button to link somewhere specific:

  • Hotel room block - Link to your group booking page

  • Gift registry - Direct guests to your registry on an external site

  • Travel information - Link to a travel guide or airport shuttle booking

  • Event page - Link to a ticketing page, Google Form, or any external tool

The other email templates have preset button destinations (your website, RSVP form, or collect details form). Custom URL lets you link anywhere.

Default content

When you create a custom URL draft, it starts with:

  • Subject: "A message from [your couple names]"

  • Message: "Visit the link below for more information."

  • Button text: "Visit link" (links to your custom URL)

You'll need to enter your custom URL and customize the message to explain what guests will find at the link.

How to create a custom URL email

  1. Go to Sending in your main navigation

  2. Click to create a new draft

  3. Select Custom URL as the template

  4. Enter your custom URL in the button link field

  5. Customize the subject, message, and button text

  6. Select your recipients

  7. Preview and send

Tips

Update the button text. The default "Visit link" is generic. Change it to something specific like "Book your room," "View our registry," or "Get directions."

Write a clear message. Since you're linking to an external page, explain what guests will find there and why they should click.

Test the link. Make sure your custom URL works before sending. Click through the preview to verify it goes to the right page.

Consider the audience. Not every guest needs every link. Use recipient filters to send hotel booking links only to out-of-town guests, for example.

Keep the URL simple. If the URL is very long, use a URL shortener or make sure the landing page is mobile-friendly since many guests will open emails on their phones.
