Setting up DNS on Domain.com

Step-by-step instructions for connecting your Domain.com domain to WedSites.

If you registered your domain with Domain.com, follow these steps to add the DNS records needed to connect it to your WedSites wedding website.

Before you start

Make sure you've added your domain to WedSites first. Go to Settings > General and enter your custom domain, then save. Then come back here to set up your DNS records.

You'll need access to your Domain.com account. Make sure you can log in and that you have permission to manage DNS for your domain.

DNS records you need to add

You'll be adding these two records to your Domain.com domain:

Record Type

Name

Address / Target

TTL

A

@

37.16.10.26

3600

CNAME

www

domains.wedsites.com

3600

Important: You only need the A record if you're using an apex domain (like yourwedding.com). You only need the CNAME if you're using a subdomain (like www.yourwedding.com). We recommend adding both so both versions of your domain work.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Log in to Domain.com

Go to domain.com and sign in to your account.

Step 2: Access domain management

  1. Click on My Account or Domains in the top navigation

  2. Find your domain in the list

  3. Click Manage or the domain name itself

Step 3: Navigate to DNS settings

  1. Look for DNS & Nameservers or DNS in the left sidebar or tabs

  2. Click on DNS Records or Manage DNS Records

You should see a list of your current DNS records.

Step 4: Check for existing A records

Look for any existing A records with @ or blank in the Name column.

If you see existing A records for @:
- You need to delete any A records that don't point to 37.16.10.26
- Having multiple A records causes your domain to only work sometimes
- Click the Delete or trash icon next to each conflicting record

Common conflicting records to look for:
- Domain.com parking page A records
- Website builder A records (if you used Domain.com's website builder)
- Old hosting A records

Step 5: Add the A record

  1. Click Add Record or Add DNS Record

  2. Select A or A Record as the record type

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Name: @ (or leave blank if @ is auto-filled)

    • Address: 37.16.10.26

    • TTL: 3600 (1 hour) or leave as default

  4. Click Add Record or Save

Step 6: Add the CNAME record

  1. Click Add Record or Add DNS Record again

  2. Select CNAME or CNAME Record as the record type

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Name: www (or your subdomain name if different)

    • Target: domains.wedsites.com

    • TTL: 3600 or leave as default

  4. Click Add Record or Save

Using a custom subdomain? If you're using something like wedding.yourwedding.com instead of www, replace "www" with "wedding" in the Name field.

Step 7: Save changes

Domain.com typically saves changes automatically when you add each record. Verify both records appear in your DNS records list.

After adding the records

Wait for DNS propagation. DNS changes on Domain.com usually take effect within 30 minutes to a few hours, but can take up to 24-48 hours in some cases.

SSL certificate is automatic. Once your domain connects, we'll automatically add an SSL certificate so your site works with https. This happens within a few hours of your domain connecting.

Test your domain. After waiting, try visiting your domain in a browser. You should see your wedding website!

Troubleshooting

Domain not working after a few hours?
- Double-check that you entered the DNS records exactly as shown above
- Make sure you deleted any conflicting A records for @
- Verify you entered your domain in WedSites under Settings > General

Still seeing Domain.com parking page?
- Make sure you deleted all old A records for @
- If you have a Domain.com website builder site, you may need to disconnect it first
- Wait longer for DNS propagation and try clearing your browser cache

Getting "Record already exists" error?
- This means there's already a record with that Name
- Find the existing record and either delete it or edit it to change the Address
- Then add your new record

CNAME issues?
- Make sure the Name is "www" and not "@"
- Verify the Target is exactly: domains.wedsites.com (no http://, no https://)
- Domain.com doesn't require a trailing dot

Need to verify DNS setup?
- Go to dnschecker.org
- Enter your domain and select "A" record type
- You should see 37.16.10.26 in the results worldwide

Domain.com-specific notes

Website Builder: If you're using Domain.com's website builder, you'll need to disconnect it before your custom domain will work with WedSites. The website builder creates its own A records that conflict.

Email hosting: If you use Domain.com for email, your MX records are separate and won't be affected by adding these A and CNAME records.

Nameservers: Make sure you're using Domain.com's nameservers (the default). If you've changed to custom nameservers, you'll need to manage DNS wherever those nameservers are hosted.

TTL values: Domain.com's default TTL (usually 3600 seconds or 1 hour) is fine. You don't need to change it unless you want faster propagation (lower TTL) or slower updates (higher TTL).

Record priority: For A and CNAME records, you don't need to set a priority. This field is only used for MX (mail) records.
