Displaying questions by RSVP status
Learn how to use the "Display this question to" setting to show questions only to guests attending the wedding, only to those who declined, or to everyone — and how to limit questions to a specific event so you only ask what's relevant (Standard or Pro plan).
Some questions only make sense for guests who are attending (like meal choices). Others are only for guests who can't come (like "Anything you'd like us to share with you after the big day?"). The Display this question to dropdown lets you show each question to exactly the right audience.
Plan requirement: Standard or Pro plan
Where to find the setting
Go to RSVP > Questions
Click the question you want to edit (or add a new one)
Find Display this question to in the question editor
Pick one of the three audience options
Choose which event the question is linked to
Click Save changes
The setting has two parts that work together: the audience dropdown (who sees it) and the event dropdown (where it appears).
The audience options
Guests attending
Only guests who confirm they're attending see this question. This is the right choice for anything that assumes the guest is coming: meal choices, dietary needs for a specific event, song requests, transportation, accommodation, or special accessibility needs.
Guests not attending
Only guests who decline see this question. Great for asking why they can't make it, whether they'd like to watch a livestream link, if they want you to send them a postcard, or any other follow-up specific to guests who can't attend.
Guests invited to
Every invited guest sees this question regardless of whether they accept or decline. Use this for questions you want everyone to answer — like an address confirmation for sending wedding favors or thank-you cards.
How the event dropdown works
Below the audience dropdown, you'll see a second dropdown where you can link the question to a specific event:
Our wedding (main event) (default)
The question applies to the whole wedding. The audience filter checks the guest's main wedding status — whether they clicked "Attending" or "Not attending" on the main event step.
A specific event (like "Reception" or "Rehearsal Dinner")
The question only appears when the guest is RSVPing to that event. The audience filter checks the guest's event ticket status for that event — whether they said "Attending" or "Not attending" for that specific event, not the main wedding.
This distinction matters when you use events independently. For example, if a guest declined the main wedding but confirmed the reception, an event-linked question with audience "Guests attending" and linked to the Reception will appear for them — because they're attending the reception, which is what matters for that question.
Example setups
Meal choice for attending guests only
Question: "What would you like for dinner?"
Display this question to: Guests attending
Link to event: Reception
Only guests attending the reception see the meal question.
Dietary requirements for rehearsal dinner attendees
Question: "Any dietary requirements for the rehearsal dinner?"
Display this question to: Guests attending
Link to event: Rehearsal Dinner
Only guests confirmed for the rehearsal dinner get asked.
Farewell message from guests who can't come
Question: "We'll miss you! Anything you'd like us to share on the day?"
Display this question to: Guests not attending
Link to event: Our wedding (main event)
Only guests who decline the main wedding see this — it won't clutter the form for attending guests.
Address confirmation for everyone
Question: "Is this still your current mailing address?"
Display this question to: Guests invited to
Link to event: Our wedding (main event)
Every invited guest sees this regardless of their RSVP status, so you can send thank-you notes to everyone.
Livestream signup for declined guests
Question: "Would you like us to email you a link to watch the ceremony live?"
Display this question to: Guests not attending
Link to event: Our wedding (main event)
Only guests who declined the main wedding see this, so you can collect livestream emails from the right people.
How the RSVP summary reflects audience
The RSVP summary on the questions page only counts responses from guests matching the question's audience. For example, if a question is set to "Guests attending," the summary shows "X out of Y attending guests answered," not out of every invited guest. This gives you accurate response rates without declined guests skewing the denominator.
Questions asked once per household
If a question is set to Ask once per household, the audience filter still applies. The question will show up for the submitting guest as long as at least one household member matches the audience filter, and the answer will be recorded for every household member the question is intended for.
For example, a household question with audience "Guests attending" shown to a family of 4 where only 2 are attending will:
Appear once on the form while someone is RSVPing
Save the answer to only the 2 attending family members
Ignore the 2 declined members
Tips
Match the audience to the question. Meal and seating questions should go to "Guests attending." Farewell or livestream questions should go to "Guests not attending."
Use "Guests invited to" sparingly. Most questions are relevant only to attending or only to declined guests. Reserve "Guests invited to" for things that apply to everyone.
Event-linked questions skip the main step. If you link a question to a specific event, it won't appear on the main wedding attendance step — it only shows when the guest is RSVPing to that event.
Preview the form. Use the form preview to see how different audience settings look. Walk through as a sample guest with "Attending" and "Not attending" responses to verify.
The default is "Guests attending." New questions start with the audience set to confirmed guests. Change it explicitly if you want a different audience.
